The New Political Economy of Teacher Education: AI summary, reviews and seminar

My 2024 book with Lauren Gatti and Warwick Mansell, The New Political Economy of Teacher Education: The Enterprise Narrative and the Shadow State, is available for digital download (whole or in part) via the Bristol University Press Digital website. An AI-generated summary of each chapter is now also freely available on the site, thanks to a pilot project by Policy Press. I can confirm that the AI summaries are accurate (!) and provide a fairly detailed precis of each chapter in this volume in the Shorts series.

Described by Michael Apple as ‘a significant contribution [that] should be read by everyone who is deeply concerned about the present and future of teacher education’ and by Christopher Lubienski as a ‘highly readable volume [that] packs a huge punch’, the book was independently nominated for two awards in 2025 and has received positive reviews, including fairly recently from the British Journal of the Sociology of Education and Contemporary Education Dialogue.

I’ll be talking about the book at the Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research at the UCL Institute of Education on Wednesday 7 October – further details to follow.
